En colaboraci\u00f3n con FIAN Uganda y la Red de Abogados de Inter\u00e9s P\u00fablico (NETPIL), celebramos una reuni\u00f3n con miembros del Parlamento de las regiones de los lagos para expresar nuestra preocupaci\u00f3n por el proyecto de ley de pesca y acuicultura de 2021, con la esperanza de que agrave la terrible situaci\u00f3n de los pescadores en Uganda. La reuni\u00f3n legislativa estrat\u00e9gica reuni\u00f3 a un total de 20 miembros del parlamento y a otras 10 partes interesadas, entre las que se encontraban hombres y mujeres de comunidades pesqueras seleccionadas, para compartir sus testimonios y expresar sus aspiraciones sobre lo que desear\u00edan ver en la ley que regula la pesca. El 3 de mayo, dos d\u00edas despu\u00e9s de la reuni\u00f3n, se present\u00f3 el proyecto de ley en el parlamento. Se tuvieron en cuenta varias de sus recomendaciones y el proyecto de ley se aprob\u00f3 con enmiendas que inclu\u00edan la retirada del ej\u00e9rcito de la gesti\u00f3n de la pesca y la eliminaci\u00f3n del uso de la fuerza razonable por parte de los agentes de seguridad en la gesti\u00f3n de la pesca. Su compromiso precedi\u00f3 al uso excesivo de la fuerza por parte del ej\u00e9rcito para controlar la pesca ilegal en Uganda desde el a\u00f1o 2017 tras una directiva presidencial. El resultado fue el desalojo de varios pescadores de la actividad pesquera, a veces cerrando los lugares de desembarco y destruyendo propiedades y vidas.
